Are you going away on a summer holiday and trying to decide what to do? A hike should be at the top of your list! You may be thinking, why are we suggesting this be something you prioritise? By the end of this article we hope to have persuaded you.

A hiking trip whilst you are away offers so many benefits and should be something you consider whenever you are going on holiday - no matter your destination. Not only will you get to explore your chosen destination in a more in-depth way, but you’ll also get to visit unspoilt places that can be hard to reach via public transport or by car. Hiking is great for your fitness and it’s also great for your mental health, which is something everyone should be working on throughout their life.

Whether you are visiting a city (and thinking of hiking from Porto as an example), going on a cruise, or taking a beach break, there is always going to be an opportunity to book a walking tour. When there is, try it once, as once done, we are sure you will want to do it again. Below are our reasons why you should do a hike when on holiday.

Hiking allows you to see different sites

When you are on holiday, you want to try and cram in as much as you can and see as many sites as possible. Hiking allows you to visit unique destinations that you may not get to see without being on a hike. You’ll come across some stunning landscapes and be able to see nature at its finest. When on a hike, there is a piece of equipment that you must not forget and that is your camera! There will be plenty of photo opportunities.

Hiking is good for someone who likes to be active

If you are someone who likes to be active, then going on a hike will get your muscles working and your heart pumping. There are many different types of hikes that you can go on, each varying in distance meaning you can test yourself with a challenging one, or take on something moderate - both will keep you active. Depending on what your plans are whilst away, you could do a hike alongside relaxing activities such as resting on the beach.

Hiking gives you some dedicated time with your loved ones

One of the best things about hiking is it gives you the chance to spend quality time with your loved ones. Away from the distractions of screens, work and everyday stressors, you can just enjoy being in each other's company. Hikes can be over several hours to days, meaning you have plenty of time to be personal and really get to catch-up without any distractions.
